Also: If you wipe down your fretboard with a dry soft cloth every time after playing, keep your hands clean & dry, and you change strings often, there really shouldn't be any substantial gunk build-up on your frets at all. Everytime I change my strings, I just end up using a tad bit of water and using the elbow grease to keep the gunk off of it. Thought someone in the tribe may have the same issues.
