Re: Just a little survey.....
Thu, March 15, 2007 - 9:32 AMAcoustic = Martin D28. The tonewoods, Martin quality & tradition, the warmth
Electric ( tie ) = Gibson Les Paul Custom Cherry Sunburst. The 490 pickups, the sexy looks, the tune-o-matic bridge, the neck, Gibson quality & tradtiion
Any Paul Reed Smith guitar (similar reasons)
However all three of these axes still give me severe sticker-shock - even though they're worth every penny.
Egad. -

Re: Just a little survey.....
Thu, March 15, 2007 - 11:08 AMfor the electrics, check out agile guitars. I got a les paul copy off of them, and man is it nice. Blows away epiphones, I can't compare it to a gibson, but other people have favorably. I have read good things about the PRS copies as well.

Thu, March 15, 2007 - 11:33 AMG & L sales are good instruments too (if you dig that single coil sound)
This was the guitar company that Leo Fender formed after he left Fender (I think he sold the name or some shit). -

Re: Just a little survey.....
Fri, March 16, 2007 - 9:40 AMMartin D18 1970.......Sweet! I love it. I just love the way it plays. It doesn't have the rich tone of the D28 but the beveled neck makes the action more like an electric and it's great for blues and jazz.
Fender Stratocaster. I play it through a Hot Rod Delux and I just love the tone. I would like to get an fx loop though. My setup is somewhat limited to blues and country. -

Re: Just a little survey.....
Fri, March 16, 2007 - 8:51 AMThe "guitars that I love but will likely never own" list is too long. What I do own, and love passionately:
Garrison G20 acoustic/ electric. Massive projection, beautiful tone, 100% Canadian!
Gibson ES 335. Versatile, classy, amazing tone!
I own a lot more, but these are my true loves......... -

Re: Just a little survey.....
Sat, March 17, 2007 - 6:53 AMi dearly love my Taylor 314ce. i guess if it had the neck of an old gibson i would love it even better, there so comfortable.
my current electric setup totally rules. i finally have the range of classic tone that i have always craved:

Re: Just a little survey.....
Fri, March 16, 2007 - 10:41 AMAcoustic... I really miss my Dad's Rekinto nylon string classical guitar with the deep cutaway. Amazing tone and sound from a crappy instrument. Played really well. I have a Fender F-210S steel string that I've played for the past 12 years. It's got nice tone now that the top has seasoned a bit.
Electric... Used to play an Ibanez Custom from about 1991 that was just incredible. 2 singles and a humbucker + Floyd Rose tremolo system. Practically played itself! I'm playing a cheep Squire Strat nowadays. I miss the amazing expensive Ibanez custom, but try to make up for it with my surprisingly better chops hehe.
You can hear me playing it on my band Shinoco's myspace:

Re: Just a little survey.....
Fri, March 16, 2007 - 4:24 PMFor what I own:
New World Guitar's Madrid. It's based on a Jose Ramirez design. It's a 650mm string length with Gotoh tuners, ebony fingerboard, Spanish Cedar neck, rosewood back and sides, and red cedar sound board. It has beautiful low end, the neck is immaculate, and it has decent sustain. I use it for classical and flamenco, having retired my 25 year old flamenco guitar
In electric land I'd love to morph two of my guitars. I have a JEM 555 customized. It's a great screamer and plays beautifully. But its a strat style and I just don't like the shape. For good ol' rockin' I have a Vantage that I've customized over the years. The guitar itself is a 77 and I've upgraded the dual humbuckers with rewound 72 SG pickups. It has brass hardware and I've recently had the neck refretted with brass fretwires. Vantage Guitars are Japanese made cheapos these days, but back in the 70s they made a hell of a nice lower-end guitar. With the mods that I've put in over the years, this guitar can go against any Gibson SG out there and win.
for my Holy Grail guitars? Can't really beat my 555, so I'm good there. Until I see some of the high-end PRS guitars. For nylon: a Hauser '37.

Re: Just a little survey.....
Thu, March 29, 2007 - 7:35 AMHi everyone! Thanks for your posts. I have had fun finding (well trying) the guitars and looking at them. I did mean acoustics though. I have a Lyon LG-22 by washburn. It's my first, and I was looking for opinions on what's your fave, so I could look around for another one. I love my guitar, but I do think I want another tone too. Guitar greed I guess. LOL Anyway, thanks so much for your opinions....keep them coming! -
