Was a tad disappointed by that DVD of Smithers. I mean I learned some stuff but I am not all that enamored of open tuning.
It's OK for some stuff but if you rely on it all your stuff will sound the same.

He plays an acoustic/elec Alverez with no the sound hole and their top end electrics
He has lots of stuff he does in open tuning.
In fact most the DVD is open tuning.

My grandmother can play in open tuning and she's dead.
