He has lots of stuff he does in open tuning.
In fact most the DVD is open tuning.
My grandmother can play in open tuning and she's dead.
Link of Chain is likely the most interesting piece he teaches. His huge assed hands help him rather a lot on the basic groove chord.

Fri, April 24, 2009 - 2:10 PMWas a tad disappointed by that DVD of Smithers. I mean I learned some stuff but I am not all that enamored of open tuning.
It's OK for some stuff but if you rely on it all your stuff will sound the same.
I ordered the Jorm Kaukonen finger picking method 2 DVD set.
