Crosby Stills Nash & Young Cover - Country Girl (w/ harmonies)

I took my solo acoustic cover of Country Girl (from the Crosby Stills Nash & Young album Deja Vu) and added vocal harmonies where they belong. It made me realize that first of all one guy armed with only a guitar and one microphone can't ever hope to come remotely close to beautiful CSNY harmonies. They are masters of harmony and the best in the world so I could have easily just said forget it but I had to try anyway just to see what I could do with it. I gave it my best shot.
I carefully overdubbed about 4 vocal harmonies one at a time (a lot of work). Give it a listen and see what you think. A real tough song to cover vocally for sure!

Cheers and thanks for listening, Gil

  • I have dial up so the down load takes alot .most people take what we do lightly and don't know how much work it is to first separate all the tracks morph them to one guitar as well as vocal. You play the finished piece that took who knows how long and some asshole comes out with thats not how that song goes. You say one man one guitar one voice one track who the fuck do you think I am god ! And damn CSN there almost as bad as the frick'n beatles.the best at all they do ! theres no hope of pulling that shit off single handed.I got it now sounds pretty damn good you sure you did'nt cheat just a little.

Seriously, all I have is a microphone direct to computer. No other equipment whatsoever.
What I did on that one was play and sing a solo acoustic version live to microphone and that was my basic track.
Then I took that WAV file and using Wavestudio software I highlighted the portions that I wanted to overdub and set my recorder to record "what u hear" which is everything including mic. I then click the record button and then hit play on the WAv file and sing over the WAV file. I then repeated this until I had 4 of my voices on there doing harmony.
      I don't have a multi-track setup or multi-track software. I wish i did. It's all done live to microphone.
Only one acoustic guitar on there, the original basic track recording.
