So rather than complain about a fictional character, fun as it was, why not post something positive/ funny about what you're working on, gigs, groupies (oops, did I say that out loud).
I got a monthly slot hosting an acoustic open mic night at a local club. Money, drinks, and control??!! Sweet!
I'm rehearsing with a new rhythm section, should be "in fightin' shape" by the end of next month.
My home studio will up and running by the end of March!

Re: Tales From The Trenches
Thu, February 22, 2007 - 9:58 PMThat's good to hear. I am just getting back into playing after about ten years off. I hope to get something going with somebody soon. -

Re: Tales From The Trenches
Fri, February 23, 2007 - 5:59 AMi have been entering the world of home recording very recently. i've had a taskam 4 track for a few years but have only used it a little bit to sketch ideas on because the resulting sound leaves much to be desired. but a few weeks ago an old friend of mine i haven't seen in a while gave me his old Roland vs-1680 digital 16 track. whaaahooo!. finally with out tweeking the hell out of it the recording sounds like the sound i was actually recording. anyhow with that and my new computer and another friend hooking me up with all kinds of midi and recording software i've got so much to learn and figure out... it's great but i will admit to being a bit overwhelmed
i'll tell ya the thing with recording is it really lets you know how sucky your rhythm is, damn i gotta tighten that up. -

Fri, February 23, 2007 - 7:36 AMTo my pleasant surprise it seems that many musicians besides myself are "getting out of retirement", and/or striking out to do their own thing nowadays.
From time to time music needs this recapitulation. Especially nowadays, if "alternative" (pop ironically) music is any indication (IMHO).
Very inspiring everyone! :)

Re: Tales From The Trenches
Fri, February 23, 2007 - 7:52 AMthat is really sunny you say that. i was messing around last night trying to put down a rhythm track and oh my god was I awful at it. I wouldn't get it to loop without a skip, and I totally had trouble keeping the right time, my chords would eventually become way off from the bar changes.
after an hour and half still nothing good. just a big skip at the end of it when it repeated. even adding a beat track didn't really help me at all.
I totally need to tighten that up as well.
I am just using audicity on my computer for now, has everything I need and only cost me $30 in cords to be able to do it. -

Tue, February 27, 2007 - 6:13 PMPlaying with a rhythm section is HUGE for getting your timing down. The dudes I'm rehearsing with are like metronomes, it will be a great advantage when I start tracking in the studio.
And... one-e-and-uh-twoee-and-uh-threey-and-uh... -

Re: Tales From The Trenches
Sun, March 4, 2007 - 7:45 AMI struggled with the rhythm thing too for years. I was a specialist at dragging. But after playing in a band for a while I got remarkably better at keeping the tempo. Now when I jam with people who aren’t quite so experienced, I get a little frustrated and tend to push them a little bit. Playing in a band will definitely cure your tempo woes.
one, two, one two three four, boom!
